Resource Centre

Ok. Over the next few days I want to start working on the resource centre. Basically what this is, is it's going to be a database of links to external resources and materials including things like courses, references, blogs, dictionaries, translators etc.

What I want to know, is how you guys want it to work.

What I'm thinking is a form with the following elements:

 - Title
 - Description
 - Type
    - Courses, references, blogs, dictionaries, translators, software, flash cards, forums, wiki pages (external!)
 - Link
 - Target Language
 - Source Language
 - Freeware/Shareware choice

The database should be searchable, as well as browsable in my opinion. Is there any comments or suggestions about what we should do?

I suppose the real question is, will it be just for external resources, just for internal resources, or for both?

If both (which it should be ), then I reckon it should be split, possibly even to individual subdomains, depending on how much work you want to put in.

What internal resource will we have besides what we have on the wiki?

Well that depends on how far we go with all the ideas we've had at various points. Things like ebooks, audiocourses, downloadable references, and so on.

I think they can be introduced later elsewhere. This is really only for link building

You might want to add
- person who submitted the link
- date submitted (so can search by dates and list things as "new")
- thumbnail (to represent the site)
- rating (if you want to build a system allowing people to rate the links)
- view count
- add Commercial to the freeware/shareware list, if you plan to also link to commercial sites
- add OpenSource to the the same list

Just a few suggestions.

BTW.. since you are using SMF (good choice!), you can also install the SMF Links mod and modify as you want to. It might be easier.

Yep, just like all other projects though it has taken a bit of a back seat until someone who can work on it gets some time off from education .
