As many of you will have seen on the wiki main page, here at Wikilang we believe in the promotion and learning of Lesser languages.

For our purposes we consider anything with less than around 250,000 speakers to be a minority language. Therefore we include some languages with official status in countries, like Māori. We also include languages which have official status and are spoken by most of a country, like Kalaallisut.

One of our aims is to have a great resource base for these minority languages, as well as users able to help others with them. We ask that you help out where possible to bring this to reality.  Smile

Current langs being worked on:
  • Võro
  • Sámi
  • Cherokee
  • Inuktitut
  • Romansh
  • Karelian
  • Scots Gaelic
  • Kalaallisut
  • Faroese
  • Upper Sorbian
  • Māori
  • Bribri
  • Chamorro
  • Manx Gaelic
  • North Frisian
  • Hawaiian
  • Lakota
  • Mohawk

¡Ye' shkẽ̀nã bua'ë! (Very good! in bribri)

Looks fine to me. Actually, I don't think the name "Bribri" has any accents in it now that I rechecked.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you can start anytime you want. I think what Taydr wants to do is get decent resources on these languages, so a good start would be to try and get as many resources into wikilang about these languages as possible. I think he also wanted to start a kind of featured language article, but he can tell you more about that in that case.

Hashi's got it, some things I am still working on sorting and planning, but the main idea is the addition of resources into the the wiki. That is the main priority. Other things will come, it's just a mater of working everything around everything else, and I have a few more pressing things to sort before I start on new parts of these projects. Hopefully the main stuff will be in place in the next week or so.

So for now, just add the langs into the wiki, with whatever info and resources you can.   Smile

It would be cool to have them, although they have just a few too many million speakers to count under this project. Don't let that discourage you though, I'd love to see some stuff on them.

For now just on speakers, however in the future I might well consider doing a featured lang thing, where less learned langs are given some promotion and whatnot. One project at a time however, or we'll all just end up crashing down.  Tongue

I am happy to help with contributing some info for Ambonese Malay from the Maluku area in Indonesia.  Currently it has about 200,000 to 250,000 speakers.
