One of the projects we are starting here at Wikilang is the endangered langs project. The main aim of this project is the gathering and creating of resources pertaining to majorly endangered languages, in the hopes of slowing, or preventing the death of them. Alternately it will also provide a way of preserving languages that die off.
The two main classes of endangered languages we want to focus on are
moribund and
severely endangered. These mean languages that have no or very few children being taught them natively, and which generally have only older speakers left. In the case of moribund languages, there are only a few 10s of elderly speakers left, leaving the language in serious threat of extinction in the next few years.
What we ask is for users to help with the gathering and creating of resources on this wiki for these endangered languages. We also want to promote the learning of them.
