This thread is about your favorite writing systems.  The poll's question is about the kind of writing system you like best.  Naturally, one might assume that your favorite writing systems will lie within those kinds, but that's not always necessarily the case.

Here are some examples of each:
Alphabetic:
Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Hangeul, Armenian, Georgian
Abjad:
Arabic, Hebrew, Phoenician, Syriac
Abugida:
Devanagari, Gujarati, Punjabi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Thai, Khmer
Syllabary:
Japanese Kana, Cree, Inuktitut, Yi
Logographic:
Chinese 漢字, Egyptian hieroglyphs, Hieratic
Pictographic:
not very common, possibly some types of cuneiform, cave drawings, mathematical symbols

Anyway, after choosing up to two types in the poll, you should write what your favorite specific writing systems are and if you'd like, your reasons why...

For me:
漢字, egyptian hieroglyphs, hieratic, demotic, coptic, greek, khmer, burmese, mongolian/manchu, phoenician, runes

kanji because I think it's a beautiful work of art that's been handed down over the generations and takes a lot of dedication and practice to really get it down

egyptian scripts because egyptian is just so damn awesome  Coffee Grin

I've always kinda liked the greek script, it looks neat
khmer because it looks like a fascinating way of writing
burmese cuz it looks like a bunch of circles
mongolian/manchu because it's vertical and it looks gorgeous
phoenician because it looks neat and it's the origin of all modern western scripts
runes because they look neat and they were used to write the germanic languages  Cool

I chose "Alphabetic" and "Syllabary" because they are very useful (depending on the language, of course).

I would easily have to go with Հայերեն (Armenian) because it's pretty. I would say Hiragana is pretty cool too, but I don't like how arbitrary it is between sounds. I think with a syllabary you really have to have some sort similarities in the characters to link similar sounds together. While Hiragana is not difficult, I think it could have been improved in that way. Cyrillic isn't bad too (not the Russian kind, the Ukrainian and Macedonian versions are pretty appealing to me). I also quite like the look of Tibetian. Other scripts like Arabic, Greek, Georgian etc aren't that appealing to me (hence I still can't read them).

I'd have to go with Mayan, classical Yucatec and Ch'ol.  Having both syllabary and hieroglyphics, as well as how the syllabary can be drawn to form a single image for a single word makes it the most beautiful alphabet/syllabary/hieroglyphics that has ever existed, to me anyway...Wink

<Edit> Oh, also the numbers are by far the easiest to do math in than any other numerical symbols I have ever seen.  Arabic, Roman, and Greek are extremely cumbersome in relation to the symbols of the numbers they are supposed to represent, IMO.

Understanding the full complexity of a certain number of expletives brings a person to a quandary when concerning punishment once their child learns the structure and use flawlessly.

From a technical standpoint, alphabets/abugidas are the best, all the others are just stupid. And I totally agree. Consonantal alphabets are absolutely retarded, they're the most complex and irritating writing system there is. It's all based on clues, it makes reading a detective game! Logographic systems are also incredibly stupid. They're backwards, absolutely a waste of time in this day and age.

All that being said, the technical aspects of a script are really unimportant to me Tongue I learn Mandarin, Hebrew, Arabic etc. Logographic scripts in particular are so incredibly beautiful. A particular favorite type of script for me is syllabaries, I just love the idea of a languages phonology shaping its script so much (plus there's yet to be a syllabary made that I didn't find gorgeous). Some of my seriously favorite scripts though:
Alphabet: Roman, Greek, Tifanagh, Hebrew, Arabic
Abugida: Bengali, Tamil, Lao/Thai, Sinhala, BURMESE, Ancient Brahmi
Syllabary: Katakana, Hiragana when it's not written in bright pink, Cherokee, Cree/Inuktitut.Ojibwe, Blackfoot, Cypriot
Logographic: Hanzi/Kanji/Chữ nôm, Ancient Egyptian, Khitan

I should also mention that I consider consonantal alphabets a special kind of alphabet, and not their own type of script (like Canadian Aboriginal Syllabics are a slightly different type of syllabary)
