I don't know why, but the words "not" and "but" are almost always the ones I memorize first (subconsciously).

Don't ask why - I don't know it myself, but it's the first thing I want to be able to say in a new language xD

usually I like to learn phrases like "hello how are you? my name is..." and a set of logical terms (i.e. if, iff, and, or, but, while, etc.)

Normally, the first words I learn are pronouns, greetings, prepositions and basic verbs (to be, to have, to eat).

But I'm interested in fantasy and mythology, so I also research about the related ones with the language/culture I'm learning, like... Quetzalcōātl & Русалка.
